According to BCTC the professional standards for teachers are “both ideals to which educators aspire and expectations that can be reasonably held”. They were introduced to us as teacher candidates as guidelines for our behaviours and work as teachers. Later on in the program, they made up the rubric by which our practicums were assessed. As Teacher Candidates, our coaching teachers and practicum evaluators observed and looked for our embodiment of these standards in our classrooms.
